Assignment 4 - Color Theory

Quite honestly I didn't know much about color, or color theory, before this assignment. If you had asked me what complimentary colors were, I would have said blue... I now have a better understanding of what color is, and how different colors work together.

Assignment 2.5 - Making That Shot Shine!

 Original

Retouched

To make this shot perfect, I decided to crop it down, make it a little tighter. I also took out the chair legs in the upper-left hand corner, they just didn't feel right. In retrospect, I should have zoomed in a little and made the shot tighter when I actually took it, or moved the chairs out of the way.

I increased the exposure and contrast a little bit, darkening the blacks, and bringing up the highlights. The original picture is kind of flat, very little contrast. I think the retouched photo shows more contrast and has more tonal range.

Double Waterfall

I originally took this photo in color before I knew that assignment 2 was supposed to be in black and white. I rather liked it better in color though, so here it is both ways. Let me know which one you prefer.

Thoughts on Mitch Dobrowner's Photography

Mitch Dobrowner's Photography

I love the tonal range in his photos. The photos are really great, rich blacks, bright whites, and everything in-between. They have a lot of emotion and expression.

His site navigation needs work though, it's kind of cumbersome.

Assignment 1

Petey Piranha Original

Petey Piranha Retouched

Petey Piranha Super Bad

I have learned so much about exposure. How aperture and shutter speed affect it. How they also affect depth of field. I just have to learn how to apply it now. I guess practice makes perfect... I've also learned that you can spend HOURS retouching your photos!
